Celebrating Bengal’s deep-rooted riverine heritage, the Jolo-Kori Necklace showcases the sacred fish as an enduring symbol of vitality, good fortune, and fertility. The sculptural pendant is designed in the round, featuring a hollow, open-lattice belly wrapped in crosshatched wax-thread ribs, framed by striated head plating, fluted dorsal fins, and a split caudal tail. Rural Dokra artisans hand-extrude fine beeswax threads over an alluvial clay core to build the hollow cage before encasing it in river silt and firing it in open wood-fueled kilns. The resulting bell-metal brass casting reveals deep shadow play through its open cage, tactile wax-rib textures, and an earthy antique-gold patina. Accented with handcrafted onyx and vermilion thread-knot beads, the pendant is suspended on a durable, adjustable red twisted cotton rope. An earthy centerpiece that complements handloom cotton sarees, tussar silk kurtas, or everyday textured linen tunics.
