Jhulan-Chhari | Dokra Fringe Choker Necklace
Description
Channeling the organic rhythm of rippling river reeds and sunray fringes, the Jhulan-Chhari Choker brings fluid motion to ancient cire-perdue (lost-wax) metalcasting. The design centers on a gently curved horizontal bar holding a row of cast brass ring spacers, from which a fringe of graduated, paddle-tipped teardrop reeds hangs freely in a dramatic V-shaped taper. Dokra artisans shape each needle drop and spacer bead individually by hand using beeswax threads over an earthen clay base before casting in wood-fired pit kilns. Molten brass alloy displaces the melted wax, creating deep shadow lines between the freely swinging batons, natural textural variations, and a warm satin-gold sheen. Flanked by rounded brass beads and tapered black thread-wrapped terminal sleeves, the necklace is strung on an adjustable braided black cotton dori with a sliding bead closure. A statement collar piece that catches light and movement across handloom sarees, linen tunics, or contemporary open-neck silhouettes.
