Ghontika | Dokra Tassel-Bell Necklace
Description
Celebrating the acoustic and sacred traditions of rural Bengal, the Ghontika-Haar translates folk temple bell motifs into wearable artisanal jewelry. The centerpiece consists of a horizontal brass sleeve adorned with coiled wire textures, suspending a triad of conical, lattice-cast bells (ghontika) with scalloped petal rims. Dokra artisans form every filigree lattice window and binding coil by hand using kneaded beeswax threads over an alluvial clay core before firing in traditional earth kilns. The resulting molten brass casting reveals deep antiqued crevices, organic tactile variations, and a warm satin glow characteristic of genuine cire-perdue craft. Flanked by artisanal hand-knotted black and crimson fabric beads, it is strung on an adjustable deep maroon braided cotton dori that easily contours as a collar choker or low-hanging necklace. An earthy statement piece that pairs seamlessly with Santiniketan handlooms, Dhakai Jamdani saris, or casual linen dresses.
