Torongo-Choker | Dokra Beaded Fringe Collar
Description
A dramatic companion piece to the Torongo-Dool ear climbers, this sculptural choker translates the primal fluid motion of Bengal's rivers into wearable folk metalcraft. The neckband consists of a rigid, flexible open torque strung with dual tiers of solid cast-brass micro beads that contour closely against the neck. Suspended along the front are five graduated, undulating zig-zag charms (torongo), each culminating in an expanding concentric sun spiral whorl that catches light as it moves. Dokra artisans form every bead and coiled wave by hand using flexible beeswax threads over an alluvial clay mold before firing in traditional open-pit earth kilns. The resulting molten brass casting reveals deep shadow lines between the curves, natural artisanal texture, and a warm antique-satin luster authentic to genuine cire-perdue craft. Designed as an open, slide-on collar torque, it sits flat above the clavicle. An ideal focal piece to pair with wide boat-neck kurtas, raw tussar silk drapes, or minimalist contemporary jumpsuits.
