Sorpo-Rekha Dokra Brass Bugadi / Ear Climbers
Description
Reinterpreting the traditional Indian bugadi (helix and cartilage adornment) through the primal lens of Bengal’s 4,000-year-old lost-wax (cire-perdue) metalcraft, the Sorpo-Rekha Ear Climbers are sculpted for an edgy, tribal silhouette. The design travels along the ear contour with a rhythmic, serpent-like zig-zag pattern, transitioning into a tight concentric spiral disc that anchors a sleek linear drop. Indigenous artisans painstakingly roll pliable beeswax threads over an alluvial clay mold to establish the fluid crests and slender stem before firing the mold in open earthen kilns. Once molten brass displaces the wax, each piece emerges with the distinctive tactile warmth, subtle natural asymmetries, and soft satin-gold glow unique to authentic Dokra castings. Featuring an integrated top hook and slender drop stem, they slide securely onto the ear rim or cartilage without needing upper piercings. Style them solo as an asymmetrical accent or as a matched pair with handloom saris, tussar silk drapes, or unstructured contemporary linen shirts.
