Shurjo Dokra Brass Stud Earrings
Description
Honoring the primal cosmic iconography of rural Bengal’s 4,000-year-old cire-perdue (lost-wax) metalcasting traditions, the Shurjo-Mandal Studs celebrate the purity of sacred spiral geometry. The silhouette presents an expanding sun disc (shurjo-chokro) that terminates in an upward, whimsical scroll flourish reminiscent of Bengal's traditional alpona folk motifs. Artisans shape each concentric ring by hand using pliable beeswax threads wound over an earthen clay base before casting the mold in rustic wood-fired kilns. Molten brass takes the place of the melted wax, lending every piece an earthy tactile texture, subtle artisanal irregularities, and a warm antique-gold satin luster unique to authentic Dokra jewelry. Fitted with post backs for secure, pierced wear, these lightweight studs bring an artisanal statement to daily handloom kurtas, linen saris, or casual western staples.
