Moni | Dokra Orb Talisman Necklace
Description
Rooted in Bengal’s 4,000-year-old cire-perdue (lost-wax) metalcasting heritage, the Mondal-Moni Necklace distills folk artistry into a pure, sculptural sphere. The focal point is a single hollow brass bead featuring multiple concentric spiral sun medallions (shurjo-mandal) that converge across the curved surface, separated by open decorative pierce-work. Artisans hand-extrude fine beeswax threads and wrap them into tight spirals over an alluvial clay core before firing in traditional earth kilns. Once the molten brass alloy takes the place of the melted wax, the bead retains the tactile ridge work, organic porosity, and warm satin-gold luster unique to authentic Dokra metalcraft. Flanked by artisanal hand-knotted onyx and crimson thread beads, it is strung on a double-strand, hand-braided deep burgundy cotton dori that can be worn long over the chest or adjusted into a relaxed mid-length drop. A versatile folk accent that styles effortlessly with handloom sarees, linen tunics, or contemporary monochrome outfits.
