Maachher Palki | Dokra Necklace & Earrings Set

The fish (Maach) holds a sacred place in Bengali tradition as an enduring symbol of prosperity, life, and good fortune. This statement set showcases a sculpted Dokra fish pendant with an expressive curved eye, fluted fins, and a textured open crosshatch grid across the body, terminating in an etched, fan-spread tail. The coordinating drop earrings echo this silhouette with hollow, caged filigree bodies suspended from matching French wire hooks. Indigenous artisans craft every crosshatch wire and fin detail by hand using pliable beeswax threads over an alluvial river-clay base before open-kiln firing. Molten brass displaces the melted wax, creating deep shadow lines, an earthy satin-bronze patina, and organic surface variations unique to true cire-perdue casting. Strung on a hand-twisted crimson and black cotton thread cord accented with artisanal fabric beads, it adjusts effortlessly in drop length to pair with handloom Jamdani saris, tussar silk drapes, or fusion linen tunics.
